Explore the splendor of local Panajachel wildlife on this special tour. The Panajachel Solola butterfly reserve, constructed several years ago as a means of providing butterflies and other wildlife with a safe environment in which to thrive, measures 5000 square meters. It includes roughly 300 live specimens of 10 different butterfly species, as well as a laboratory where you can observe the various stages of a butterfly's life.
Start the tour at our reception center, and head up one of several trails to the top of the mountain. If you have extra time and you're adventurous, we recommend participating in an exhilarating canopy (zipline) tour before visiting the butterfly reserve, as well as spending time by the lake.
On this four-hour boat trip, you’ll enjoy magnificent lake views and visit three villages:
- San Juan de la Laguna – tour a weaving factory that utilizes plant-based ink
- Santa Clara – observe indigenous Guatemalan culture
- Santiago de Atitlán – learn more about the Mayan saint Maximonand Tz'utujil (Mayan ethnic) culture; visit the local church
On this three-hour guided walking tour, you’ll uncover the cultural history of indigenous people; you’ll also visit the craft market, the cemetery and the Cerro de Pascual, site of Mayan ceremonies.
